Kuala Lumpur 27 February 2020 – On the second day of the Smart Building Conference 2020 in Kuala Lumpur all delegates arrived on time.
Speakers
We kicked the day off with Gerard M. Pillai from Alias Innovations Sdn Bhd giving his insights on the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4). He made a clear case, that only now the infrastructure was ready to really build smart homes and buildings.
Smart buildings are more than buildings built with an ecological view in mind, or where doors open and close when people walk in. Smart buildings are breathing mechanisms, that automatically adjust to the people using them, in terms of light, temperature, energy requirements, but also as information systems for the users.
The second speaker of the day was Sam Helmy from Neovate who we met the day before as a panel member. Sam explained how artificial intelligence can improve building occupants engagement and interactions with the building. Currently, they are researching voice-enabled commands and gestures through a system called WISP. He shared his concept project which will be built near the KLCC Petronas Towers.
After a quick break, all delegates were pressed into the reality of things by Tay Hao-giang from Fire Safety Engineering Sdn Bhd. An exhilarating session with lots of insightful information and data, for when things go really wrong in a building, and the building requires evacuation because of fire or other disasters.
After an excellent and fulfilling lunch at the Renaissance Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, we were provided with a rapid-fire session by Dr. M Imran Sarwar from Senzo Sdn Bhd. Dr. Imran talked about Smart City development and the role the government can and has to play, creating a framework for entrepreneurs to work within.
Tarun Sukhani (USA) Founder and CTO from Abundent Sdn Bhd gave his vision on how blockchain and AI can assist in the development and execution of functions of smart buildings. Very clearly he explained the blockchain technology, as being very smart digital mini-contracts that get executed based on pre-determined certain criteria.
Frank Amptmeijer gave his views and shared his experience on digital scheduling, both predictive and reactive). He also discussed IoT and the human factor, in such a way that common sense should be able to overrule any computer-guided system.
Panel Discussion
The day ended with a Panel discussion in which architect Mustapha Kamal Zulkarnain, Dr. M. Imran Sarwar from Senzo Sdn Bhd and Gerard M. Pillai from Alias Innovation Sdn Bhd participated. The last session was moderated by Frank Amptmeijer, and the smart building 2020 delegates were assisted in building a strong case, on how to inform their boards or directors of the applied sciences for smarter buildings and a more sustainable society conglomerating in smart cities.
