Kuala Lumpur 26 February 2020 – Also this year our founder and CEO Frank Amptmeijer was asked to chair the Smart Building Conference 2020 in Kuala Lumpur organized by Comfori Events Sdn Bhd.
33 delegates from nearly 25 companies and organizations gathered at The Renaissance Hotel in Kuala Lumpur to share and inspire each other on the latest technologies and developments in the Smart Building world.
Conference Delegates
A large number of industry peers turned up for the event in the early morning hours. The delegates came from all over the Malaysia Peninsular, from Iskandar in Johor, the island of Penang and the state of Pahang, but also from the state of Sabah on Borneo. International delegates came from countries as Egypt, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany.
Speakers
Day 1 had a full program with 7 experienced industry speakers’ sessions and a panel session at the end.
Mathias Gelber (The Green Man) kicked of the day with an exhilarating session on how green buildings can become living buildings.
Mathias raised the question to list out the key points to a smart building:

Connected to its users, and the people that manage the building.

Energy efficiency – saving of energy, and energy production (solar, wind)

Heating and cooling, and air quality control.

Waste management, collection and recycling.

Water efficiency – rainwater collection, and water recycling.

Smart design.

Training & awareness to its daily users.

Low carbon footprint.
Chris Choy from FiFoYo shared his knowledge regarding IoT (Internet of Things) in order to improve building performance and higher levels of occupant satisfaction.
Dr. Harris Ismail from Ascension Technology shed light on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and building digital twins of physical buildings to improve building performance.
Senior Architect Mustapha Kamal Zulkarnain for the same architect bureau in Kuala Lumpur shared intricate details of designing smart building designs.
After lunch, Chia Weng Yan from Aspire Asia Sdn Bhd explained how innovations can assist in occupant satisfaction.
C.K. Lau from BEEM Technologies gave in-depth information regarding HVAC systems (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning), the largest energy guzzlers in almost any building. He gave some technical information of a Malaysian invention called the Eco-Motor.
Melving Leong from marketing and research company Frost & Sullivan gave interesting facts on detectable trends and models for smart cities and connected homes.
Panel Discussion
The day ended with a panel discussion that turned to an excellent debate regarding the business cases for smart building.
Sam Helmy from Neovate, Mathias Gelber GSX Exchange, and Dr Daniele Cambero CEO of the REI Group, gave their visions on how all delegates could build their business cases and how to defend the importance of the investment to be done. The visions given by all three industry experts gave the delegates enough food for thought.
